Good flavour for a game based on keeping a farm afloat for a year - amazingly difficult in fact. However this really is a bit of a number cruncher, and has very swingy hazard cards which are basically down to dice rolls.

just acquired through the Geek 7-21-05. Lots of crunching needed. LOCATION:C-TOP

Agricola Mk 1 maybe?

Cracking good game. Read the cards first and have paper and pencil to hand.

Loved this game when I was little. You have to manage a farm, buy grain and supplies, go to auction with livestock, deal with disasters, do accounts... Actually it could be quite tedious. I'll have to re-play it sometime and see.

The dice can determine the outcome, but there is some strategy, and it's quite fun. I liked it enough as a kid to program a computer version to speed up gameplay with my family.
